Jezeel Martin

August Town will soon have a next superstar. That is if 13-year-old Jezeel Martin continues on the path he has set. This articulate young man believes that he will achieve great things, and he believes Generating Genius is assisting him.

"Staying here generally has been fun, exciting and also tiring. We have learnt how to manage our time better and Generating Genius have also helped us in making better personalities," he said. "We have not only gained knowledge, but we have learnt things to improve our lives."

Jezeel is also cognisant of the fact that his community has been experiencing trying times, and he says that this has impacted on many boys his age. "Where I come from, a reason why a lot of boys are not successful is that they have tried and people are putting them down. I have also felt that way, being called worthless, but that has not stopped me, as I can really say that they are liars."

This St. George's College second former is encouraging other boys his age to have faith in themselves, and do not blame others for their mistakes, but to persevere.

Jezeel est aussi cognisant du fait que sa communauté a éprouvé des temps pénibles, et il dit que ceci a influé sur beaucoup de garçons son âge. « Où je viens de, une raison pourquoi beaucoup de garçons ne sont pas réussis est qu'ils ont essayé de le et les gens les mettent. Je me suis senti aussi, est appelé comme ça sans valeur, mais cela ne m'a pas arrêté, comme je peux dire vraiment qu'ils sont des menteurs ».

Ce St. George de collège deuxième ancien encourage d'autres garçons que son âge pour avoir la foi dans se, et ne pas d'autres blâmer pour leurs erreurs, mais persévérer.

Philip Wong (Class of 1959), President of Deltana Enterprises, Inc. of Miami and a member of the St. George's College Alumni Association of Florida, presented a second J$1,000,000 cheque to St. George's at the beginning of the 2006/2007 school year. He is shown here (see enlarged photo) flanked by the college's Principal Mrs. Margaret Campbell and Bursar Mrs. Joylene Parris.

On hand for the presentation were several members of the Florida and Jamaica Alumni Associations, the Consul General for Jamaica to the Southern United States Hon. Ricardo Allicock (also an Old Boy), and representatives of the StGC Board of Management.

STUDENTS RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIPS, LAPTOPS, INTERNET SERVICE

Founding President Dennis Barnett and donor Philip Wong of the St. George's College Alumni Association of Florida visited Winchester Park in September and interviewed five students and their parents, following their nominations for scholarships by a committee of teachers.

Jezeel Martin and Charles Frost received full scholarships up to completion of their first degree at the University of the West Indies from Philip Wong, who also presented them with laptop computers. Patrick Terrelonge of InfoChannel, (Class of '59), has generously undertaken to provide free Internet services for the two scholarship winners.

The interviewers were so impressed with the standard and deportment of the candidates that the other three students, Tevin Williams, Rojae Powell and Aldin Crosdale, were awarded scholarships for the remaining years of their studies at St. George's. These scholarships will include books, uniforms, meals, transportation and other incidentals. Some of the students will receive dental and medical treatment while in the programme.

Several Old Boys, including Tony Wong, Ken Scott and George Anderson, were instrumental in making these scholarship grants possible.

We salute all of these Old Boys and thank them for their generous and continued support of their alma mater and its students.
